Yes. We started offering the gender scans from 15 weeks safely since couple of years now and can confirm its very accurate. The gender scans have a 99.9 % accuracy rate if performed at 15 weeks’ gestation. The accuracy rate for between 11 and 14 weeks drops down a lot, which is around 70% and before 12 weeks even to 54%. To perform an accurate gender confirmation, your babies’ genitalia (gender area) has to be fully formed. Therefor we cannot scan you before 15weeks. If your baby isn’t in the best position or the cord is between the legs and it is difficult to see clear the gender, we will offer you a free of charge rescan. Which is very rarely the case. Our team are highly skilled and trained NHS sonographers using the latest ultrasound technology, which you can trust
Unfortunately, not. The accuracy drops literally down to 70% due to babies’ development and it’s very inaccurate to confirm the gender of your baby before this time. The NHS 20 week scans, are not usually confirm the gender, because it is not mandatory / listed in their protocol of their checks. Some sonographers are happy to confirm, but we had experienced in the past, that those confirmation unfortunately been incorrect. The difference is with our Sonographers, that they confirm daily many genders and therefor very trained with this skill.
Gender scans are always performed via a 2D ultrasound. All wellbeing checks and the gender checks can be only preformed in 2D (black and white). 3D/4D are not designed to preform those checks. We do offer a 4D sneak preview, which is ideally after 20 weeks (best around 26 weeks). The reason behind is, babies are very slim and skinny before 20 weeks. Babies gain weight after 20 weeks, which is very beneficial for an amazing 4D image. Please let the sonographer know, if you wish a little 4D sneak peek at your gender scan appointment. (which is optional)
Sometimes this happens, there are many factors involved so if we aren’t able to confirm the gender we will offer you a free rescan (No rescan can be offered if we cannot obtain 4D images as this is a free ‘sneak peak’
