You must be an adult (18 years old or over); if you are a child (16 or 17 years old), a responsible adult must accompany you to your appointment. A responsible adult is defined as a person who is of or over the age of 18 years and is your parent, step-parent, legal guardian, grandparent or a person who is acting in place of your parent and who could reasonably be expected to exercise responsible supervision of you. A child is anyone who has not reached the age of 18 years. We cannot scan anyone under the age of 16.
Every scan package with Baby Scan Studio Ashford will perform a well being check of your baby as the first part of your scan. Please be advised we only scan you for long enough to achieve the purpose of your appointment. Our aim is to protect both baby and mother in accordance with guidelines Of BMUS (British Medical Ultrasound Society) guidelines for the safe use of diagnostic ultrasound equipment and we regularly update our procedures based on BMUS guidance.

Yes, an early dating scan is the same as an early pregnancy scan. Sometimes it is also called a viability scan. You can book your early dating scan from early as 7weeks. We will perform an abdominal scan (from the top of your belly). We do not offer transvaginal scans (called internal vaginal scans), which you will require, if you are less then 7weeks. The purpose to have an early dating scan is:
- To determine the pregnancy’s location, if its in the right location / inside the uterus rather than outside the uterus (called an ectopic pregnancy)
- To confirm single or multiple pregnancy
- The size of the gestational sac, which determines the age of the foetus and offers a due date. The yolk sac, which your baby gets all the nutrition’s from
- The heartbeat, if possible, depends on your stage of pregnancy. If we can see the heartbeat, we will demonstrate this. The guidelines don’t recommend to use the doppler, such early stages of pregnancies, and there for you will hear your baby’s heartbeat to a later stage in your pregnancy.

Early dating scans can be performed from 7 to 14 weeks but they do not replace your 12 week NHS scans.
Our highest priority is always the wellbeing of yourself and your baby. All our scan packages have always a well-being check included and if we see anything which requires further checks, we will always supply you with an wellbeing report and refer you to your local hospital - Early Pregnancy Unit (called EPU) or foetal medicine department.
