Reassurance Pregnancy Scan

A reassurance scan is a simple abdominal ultrasound scan that aims to check the progression of your pregnancy. Many expectant mothers find an additional extra scan from the NHS ones to be very useful in reducing stress or anxiety. The scan will check your baby's overall health and reassure you that your pregnancy is developing as expected.

We perform a full well-being check where we check your babies’ heartbeat, organs and the amount of amniotic fluid, your cervix, and placenta position. Any indication as to the well-being of your baby. Our sonographers can also observe the movement and the position of your baby. It is important to note, we do not replace any of your NHS scan appointments and therefore, you must attend to all your hospital NHS appointments. Our scans are just an additional scan.

All our scans are done using the latest ultrasound technology, which uses an abdominal probe on the surface of your tummy. Ultrasound is a non-intrusive technique; it relies on sound waves being reflected back into the probe to create an image. This is why we ask you to drink plenty of water before your appointment.

You’ll receive a clear, written report on the same day as your scan.If the sonographer identifies anything that may need further attention, they will explain their findings to you. With your consent, we’ll refer you to your NHS care provider for any follow-up checks and give you a full written report.It is your responsibility to follow up promptly with your NHS care provider.

Yes – we're happy to check the baby's sex during a reassurance scan if you'd like us to.However, if it’s not clearly visible on the day, we wouldn’t offer a rescan, as finding out the sex is not the main purpose of this scan.If knowing the sex of your baby is important to you, we recommend booking our dedicated Wellbeing & Gender Scan.

Yes, absolutely. Many parents choose to wait until birth to find out their baby’s sex, and we fully respect that.In these cases, our sonographers will take extra care to keep it a secret by asking you to look away from the screen at certain moments during the scan.

No, you don’t need a full bladder for this scan.

Most of the scan will be in 2D, but we do offer a short 4D preview.We recommend having this after 20 weeks, as babies are usually too small before then. The ideal time for a 4D glimpse is around 26 weeks.Please note, this is just a brief preview – if your baby is in a difficult position, we may not be able to get a clear 4D view.

Yes, you’re very welcome to share this special experience with loved ones. You can bring up to three guests with you.If you're bringing children, we ask that they are accompanied by an adult at all times.Please note, some appointments may require a transvaginal scan. In these cases, we recommend not bringing children or a larger group to ensure your comfort and privacy.

All our scans are carried out exclusively by fully qualified, NHS-registered sonographers who follow the latest safety guidelines.

Yes, we recommend bringing your hospital notes and any recent scan reports to your appointment.This can be important if the sonographer needs to compare previous measurements or refer you to your local NHS provider for further checks.
